I legit forgot I had written or recorded this. I was looking through the project archive for something else to put on this EP and I was like "What is THAT song?" Turned out it was pretty good.
Clearly just a sketch--one rhythm guitar, one vocal, and a single take of electric guitar with one of those old round-bottomed EH Slammi pedals doing the pitch shifting effect. But sometimes less is more, and I couldn't think of anything else to add to it. Was going to re-record the bridge vocal to fix some pitchiness, but decided to embrace vulnerability instead.
lyrics
I'm planting a garden
red roses and raspberry canes
a border of sweetness
love disguised as thorns that twine
between your heart and mine
springtime will send you
purple heart violets and blue columbines
patience and folly combined
to fill the barren field that lies
between your heart and mine
stuck here in december
i can't get a seed in the ground
i can barely remember
the world keeps circling 'round and round
again and again,
i'm planting a garden
red roses and raspberry canes
a border of sweetness
love disguised as thorns that climb
between your heart and mine;
love that fills the vacant lot
between your heart and mine
