this brief life
electricity and silence
a slow-pulsing magic
we fireflies.
soft yellow moon
trails our shadows behind us
ghosts pursuing ghosts
we fireflies.
building our futile bridges
brick by brick
into an endless sea
brick by brick
we raise together
a monument to unrequited dreams.
marking the miles of darkness
lived through point
by blind faithful point,
point by point
we traverse together
this illuminated life.
lit by our sorrows, we shine.
this brief life
uncertainty and courage
a future as glorious starlight
we fireflies.

Sileni is sitting and looking out the window of the room
Where she’s been living; she’s been feeling all alone
One eye wanders to the clock
The other watches shadows emerging from, remerging with
The dark.
Sileni paints a smile on, makes it wide enough to swallow fear
Wide enough (almost) to swallow all the origins of fear.
She opens the door.
Outside it is cold, cold enough to make her shiver.
From a distance this could easily be mistaken
for laughter.
Sileni and the smile pass
From pool of light to pool of light;
There is freedom in all motion...
Even when it’s flight.
There is safety in numbers--Sileni is one.
But her smile is her second, it harbours a secret
Hints at a power much older than reason.
The eyes are a window but the smile is a mirror,
A magnet, a measuring stick
And a mantra.
Sileni is sitting and looking out the window of the room

you are warm and cling to me tightly
as if i was safety in a stormy sea.
i glide over you,
but you sink into me.

it is cold, and your breath shines
like diamonds on a ring—
each word a fading promise
you make to someone else;
still, you sink into me.
i cannot remember my arms
with you in their embrace.
i do not know what i have lost
but i miss it just the same.
i would forgive you for anything,
if only you were to blame.

we are parts of a puzzle
that may never be complete.
we are scraps of a larger picture
we cannot hope to see.
